At the beginning of the 20th century, the Bavarian reminiscence was then converted into a hotel. Several extensions followed over the decades. Historic Aparthotel Questionnaire
Year erected: 1914
What is the history of the property?
Hornigold invites you to the centre of Katowice, a vibrant city in the south of Poland with a rich culture. The apartment building offers comfortable and luxurious accommodation, a perfect place for both short and longer stays.
What was the era and/or the architectural style in which the property was built?
Located in a historic modernist townhouse from 1914, designed by Robert Zimmermann. The architecture of Katowice is mainly a product of industrial development that characterized the last 160 years. Apart from Łódź and Gdynia, Katowice belongs to the small group of large Polish cities, the centers of which do not originate from the medieval founding city. Hornigold Apartments "In Zielona Kamienica" were born out of dreams. We wanted to create a space that would not only be a service building or hotel, as there are many in Katowice, but a brand that is authentic, recognized and liked. In our projects, we are always inspired by the history of the region, and we use the knowledge about it in our own, original way. The tenement house from 1914, in which we are located, apparently resembles others, stretching along Kopernika Street.On the one hand, it is true, because many of the buildings were erected thanks to designs by Robert Zimmermann (formerly Cieślik), who, while purchasing plots of land in the northern part of Kościuszko Street, was successively covering both streets. After all, there used to be dirt roads here, and now we have a bustling downtown. On the other hand, it is enough to enter our courtyard to feel the unique atmosphere of the place right from the doorstep. Are you ready to get to know the world of the Green Tenement House?
Is the property surrounded by other historic buildings?
"GREEN AND PEACEFULLY"

Someone who has not had the opportunity to stay in our interiors yet may not know where the idea for the name came from? Why "In Zielona Kamienica"? We said that in our projects we are inspired by history, but we did not mention also nature. The façade of the tenement house is overgrown with ivy, which looks amazing every season, the reception is always decorated with fresh flowers and in the corridors, in the breakfast room or in the apartments you will find a lot of beautiful potted plants. We must also mention that we love books and poetry, so in the names of the rooms you will find many references to the works of Agnieszka Osiecka, Andrzej Dąbrowski and Maria Koterbska.

Others historical buildings surrounded:

At ul. Zawadzki [10]; the church is plastered, three-nave, basilica, with galleries (porches over the aisles) open to the nave; has one tower located in the corner. Designers composed the church and presbytery in one block, and built the entire complex into the corner between two streets (Kopernika and M. Curie-Skłodowskiej); the interior has retained its original functionalistic and art deco furnishings; its authors are (apart from architects): Zofia Trzcińska-Kamieńska - Way of the Cross and the sculpture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus; Henryk Kunzek - Our Lady of Immaculata; Leon Kowalski - a painting of Our Lady, Queen of Poland; Marian Szpindler - Christ in the main altar, Karol Muszkiet - sculpture of St. Anthony of Padua;

It is located in the former apartment of Barbara Ptak, set designer and costume designer, and her husband, the actor and singer, Stanisław Ptak.
