The villa is a medieval building, later enlarged and remodeled especially outside. The access is directly from the Viale di Cart. The front garden is divided into two large flower beds. In the back of the grassy area is bounded oratory. The façade is quite simple with a stone staircase, flanked by two symmetrical doors communicating with the ground floor, leading to the main entrance preceded by a small terrace. The simple portal, flanked by two tall windows and further by two slightly projecting balconies, culminate with a simplified entablature in stone that supports the balcony of the upper opening. The villa is distinguished by the large central hall, or atrium entrance, marked by two rows of two columns with ionic capitals, almost clinging to the north and south walls. The chapel, a rectangular hall, was restored by the Bianco family in 1845, by the di Suni in 1942 and by the current owners in 2015

On the walls, stucco other form, with their phytomorphic alternating compositions characteristic of eighteenth-century landscape with trees and fake ruins, with the typical fund in color. In one of these is shown a villa preceded by a geometric Italian garden arches flanked by manicured lawns, so as to permit the passage, and surmounted by plumes. Erminia and Arnaldo married in 1856; for him it was the second marriage, being widow of Anna Colonna. The family had three sons: Gino, Guido, who became professor of international law, member for the constituency and governor, and Teresita, who married Antonio Bianco. Together with her husband, Erminia cultivated the friendship of the poet and writer Ippolito Nievo and, after his tragic death, she managed to publish the famous work of the young Friulian “Confessions of an Italian”. During a stay, Arnaldo Fusinato hosted in the villa the poet Giosuè Carducci, who was visiting in Feltre Giambattista Bellati. In 1884 was born Erminia, who married then the Marquis Gaetano Di Palici Suni della Planargia, and became the new owner of the villa, which in honor of his maternal grandmother, took the name of "Erminia."

Historic Hotel Questionnaire
Year erected: 1375
What is the history of the property?
The first documents trace it back to 1375, while in his 1712 “Giuoco nuovo di tutte le Osterie che sono in Bologna” (new game of all taverns to be found in Bologna), G.M. Mitelli, a famous historiographer from Bologna, mentions the Capel Rosso as the tavern that offered its customers “delicious roast partridges, well larded and served with toasts”.

Located since its origins in the central, secluded Via Fusari, the hotel is one of the most ancient accommodation places in Bologna: it welcomed the first "foreigners" passing through town in the 14th century.

In those days it was a tavern wanted by the Bishop of Bologna, Nicolò Albergati, to ensure his protection to the Jews passing through Bologna, who were allowed to stay in town no longer than three days and only at the Capel Rosso, as this was located outside the city walls (that then were in Piazza Maggiore).

To build it, the small houses existing in Via de’ Fusari were pulled down.

At that time, Bologna was already frequented by lots of "foreigners passing through it", that were registered as guests. Among them were the Jews who, always persecuted, were under the obligation of staying at the Capel Rosso.

Being located outside the town walls, it was an ideal place because Jews were protected and also more easily controlled.
Up to the middle of the 15th century, a few steps away from the hotel was the so-called Ufficio delle Bollette, an office in charge of keeping an eye on foreigners, innkeepers and prostitutes.

This certainly explains why 16th and 17th century proclamations regarding taverns ordered that Jews passing through Bologna should stay only at the Capel Rosso but no longer than three days.
This way it would be easier to watch their movements discreetly, yet efficiently, in case they were malefactors.
Unfortunately, in those days religious intolerance still had hardly eradicable roots.

When, in the 14th century, the construction of S. Petronio started (the famous church that was left uncompleted in the 15th century in order not to exceed the size of Saint Peter in Rome), Cardinal Albornoz assigned the hotel its unusual sign in the form of a cardinal’s hat (cappello means “hat”), as recorded by Mitelli in his “Giuoco delle Osterie”.

The sign was meant to mark the lodging reserved for the architects and artists building the basilica.

In 1464 the hotel building was bought by a celebrated law professor of the University of Bologna, Andrea Barbozza, an aristocrat from Palermo who moved to Bologna where he established a family dynasty that would attain senatorial rank. The sale price was set at 1,706 picchioni or pegioni, large silver coins minted by the dukes of Milan.

In the deed by notary Giacomo Mangini, the building is described as a house occupied by the tavern “of the hat” and three shops. In 1497, two of these stores were hit by a fire that also damaged the adjoining apothecary’s shop or “spezieria del Dottore”.

Better known as "spezieria del Mondino", it was one of the first opened in Bologna and belonged to the family of renowned doctor Mondino de’ Liuzzi, one of the fathers of anatomy.
In 1467, Andrea Barbazza let out the hotel to innkeeper Bertuccini at an annual rent of 110 Bolognese lire.

Chronicles from the 17th century record the Capel Rosso as the inn where one could get the best sleep in Bologna, and in spite of several vicissitudes (today only two of the taverns and inns cited by Mitelli in 1752 still exist) the hotel in Via dei Fusari undoubtedly stays one of Bologna’s most ancient and known lodges.

The hotel underwent a major extension in 1770 when its manager Zecchi joined it to a house at the back.

The place was also renowned for its game cooking, especially the partridges that feature as the main course in plate 41 of Mitelli’s game.

Next to the inn’s entrance, a reconstruction based on an 1850 street guide shows the tavern, that is to say the eatery where one could enjoy the excellent partridges recommended by Mitelli.

In the second half of the 19th century, the hotel was run by Alfonso Cappelli together with his son who had completely renovated it.

An advertisement appeared between the 19th and 20th centuries, which also shows the moustached, rubicund face of the owner, read that "ancient and renowned hotel-restaurant Cappello" offered guests “elegant rooms from 1.50 lire, with electric light, telephone, radiators, toilets and showers” – all most modern comforts.

And also a banqueting hall, excellent home cooking, selected wines from Romagna, Tuscany and Piedmont, and the real lambrusco from Sorbara”. All at "moderate prices".

In 2001, thanks to thorough renovation, it became one of the city’s most prestigious (in demand and comfortable) hotels – for lovers of beauty, art, history, and pleasure. For lovers of privileges.

Historic Country House Questionnaire
Year erected: 1745
What is the history of the property?
Trehellas House has a long and interesting history, being at various times a farm house, a court house and the local village inn where many village functions were held.

When Maclean wrote his history of the parish of Egloshayle, Trehellas was know as the Washaway Inn where the monthly Petty sessions for the hundred of Trigg were still being held, The Long room of the inn was still used as a magistrates court into the 20th century dealing with minor offences such as drunkenness. The old joke was that those convicted or acquited consoled themselves or celebrated by popping downstairs for a drink.

In January 1760 a meeting of the justices and deputy Lieutenants was convened there. Frequent surveys for the sale of timber were also held at the inn. In the seventeen hundreds a venison club whose members comprised of the local gentry, dined at the inn several times a year. On the 9th November 1775 it seems that Sir William Molesworth of Pencarrow was set up as a candidate for membership and on December the 15th he was elected.

By the 1930s Trehellas was just a farmhouse, The farm being worked by the Lobb brothers, one of whom lived at Dunmere and did a milk round into Bodmin. He also ran a service taking batteries into Bodmin to be recharged, as at that time radios needed a wet cell that only held about 2 weeks charge.

At the end of WWII, a youth club with about 70 members was set up. The club met in the Long Room of Trehellas. The washaway families set up the very successful Washaway Concert parties which toured their shows around the local villages. Dances were held in the Long room. Sadly these activities had to come to an end as the Lobb brothers felt that they disturbed the cows in the dairy below.

Trehellas was eventually sold to someone who wanted to turn it into a restaurant which was called Wash Away Your Troubles. After this it became the taste of Malaya, a restaurant specialising in Malayan food. Now it is the extremely popular and successful Trehellas House Hotel and restaurant owned and run by Alistair Hunter.

Historic Bed & Breakfast Questionnaire
Year erected: 1600
What is the history of the property?
Villa Dragoni, and in particular the west tower, was built around end of 1500 and early 1600. It is yet not clear who frescoed the loggia at the first floor with hunting images, but the painting technique and themes can be dated end of 1500.
Bertolini family modified the building during the XVII century in order to have frescoes from talented painters from Friuli such as Chiarottini, Canal and the school of Morelli between 1783 and 1803.
Marina Danieli bought the estate in 1995 and 3 years later started the renovation.
All the structural changes had been made with full respect of the original building and structures. The
restoration work on the frescos took 3 years, because during the Second World War the Villa was first used by the German army and then by the Americans;
the latter not only covered all the frescos with dye, but also wrote on some walls with red paint and used them to play darts.
