Breakfast

Some guests were disappointed by the limited food options and poor service with cold toast, slow butter service and long waits for coffee and tea. The price of breakfast was also a point of contention for some with a discretionary charge of £10 per day and a charge of £25 per person for breakfast. On the other hand, some guests enjoyed the lovely selection of teas and coffees, best poached eggs ever and good value for money. Overall, while the breakfast service may be a bit patchy, there are some gems to be found on the menu.

Dinner
Bovey Castle's dining options left several guests with mixed feelings as they reviewed their experiences. While the Smiths Restaurant offered excellent quality food and outstanding service, the menu selection and wine list did not meet expectations at times. On the other hand, the Brasserie was surprisingly good with some considering its offerings closer to fine dining. However, vegetarian and vegan guests did not find many options at the Brasserie and the quality of food disappointed them. Guests also reported overpriced and underwhelming food, along with difficulties in placing orders and remembering them. Some guests loved the tasting menu, while others felt let down by the evening's food. Despite this, the bar received positive reviews and the restaurant's food was labelled sensational by some guests.

While some found the rooms to be a bit small or in need of a bit of TLC, many appreciated the special touches, such as turn-down service with refreshed towels and water by the bed. The beds are generally very comfortable, although some guests did mention that their larger rooms tended to be extremely hot at night. Despite a few minor maintenance issues like a shower seal installed incorrectly, guests were generally very impressed with the cleanliness and condition of their rooms. Some guests found that the thin walls could be a bit noisy, while others appreciated the lovely vibe and atmosphere of their rooms. Overall, Bovey Castle's accommodations offer a luxurious and comfortable stay in a stunning and historic setting.

The staff were equally attentive, ensuring that areas were kept clean as guests moved through the hotel. However, there were a few minor issues reported by some guests - dirty dishes left in corridors for a little too long, fingerprint smudges on brass boards and tables that were not cleared as quickly as they would have liked. Despite these small hiccups, the overwhelming consensus was that Bovey Castle was a well-maintained and beautifully clean property. Add in comfortable accommodations and delicious food and it's no wonder that guests left glowing reviews of this hotel.

However, guests note that there are extra charges just to use the spa facilities, something to consider if you're on a budget. Pool
The pool at Bovey Castle is a mixed bag with some guests raving about its size and amenities, while others found it disappointing. The pool is large and well-stocked with towels and other supplies, but during peak hours, it can get loud and crowded. Families with children may enjoy the pool, but some guests were disappointed with its temperature and a few found the surrounding area to be dirty or noisy due to nearby machinery. If you're planning a stay at Bovey Castle, the pool may be a nice perk to enjoy, but don't necessarily count on it being your favorite aspect of the hotel.

Family
Bovey Castle is a family-friendly hotel that caters to people of all ages, including families with young children. While some guests found the noise level created by the large number of children around the pool to be too high, others enjoyed spending quality time with their families. The hotel has activities for children, such as archery, feeding the chickens and observing deer and reindeer. However, the play area is not suitable for children under three years old. The staff at Bovey Castle were found to be very attentive and helpful, which contributed to making the stay more enjoyable. 5 Star

The property itself is beautiful and the staff are described as delightful and helpful. However, some guests have reported that experienced staff is needed during breakfast service. In terms of dining, one review notes that pizza and pasta don't belong in a castle. Despite the mixed reviews, those who had an exceptional stay describe it as absolutely perfect. It's worth noting that if you're specifically after a true five star experience, Bovey Castle may not be the right fit for you.

Luxury

The hotel is undoubtedly one of the most luxurious on a completely different level, although some guests felt the service didn't quite match this high standard. The property is absolutely stunning, allowing you to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and indulge in a beautifully luxurious setting. Additionally, the staff, food, cleanliness and overall hospitality were exceptional. Many guests claimed that Bovey Castle was the best hotel they've ever visited in the U.K. The hotel offers a five-star experience, exactly what you'd expect from a top-rated hotel. Relax and unwind with great food, enjoying a luxurious break unlike any other.
