The first first record of this castle's existence dates back to the 11th century. Many noble Tuscan families lived in the castle over the centuries, until the Greene family (descendants of the famous writer Graham Greene) bought it and restored it to its past glory, planting vineyards and creating the outstanding castle hotel that exists today.
This place was built as a medieval fortress in the 11th century, while one part of the castle is preserved from the late medieval period. The Watchtower is an element that stands there to remind us the importance of the castle during the 12th century.
