This historic hotel was first opened in 1851 and during its renovations human bones were discovered under the floorboards. Since the hotel was used as a hospital during the Civil War, those bones were probably the amputated limbs of the wounded soldiers. Many patients were also housed there during the yellow fever epidemics. Various ghosts have been sighted around the hotel, while some taps have been said to turn on and off by themselves and footsteps are often heard on the corridors.
