Best Western Hôtel De France, nestled in the historic heart of Chinon, boasts a prime location celebrated by guests for its central positioning close to the fortress, market square, cafés and restaurants. The beautiful historic building and picturesque views enhance the experience, making it an ideal choice for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of Chinon. The friendly and welcoming staff, known for their warmth and attentiveness, further contribute to the inviting atmosphere.
Guests consistently praise the breakfast, described as royal, extensive, varied and plentiful with high marks for the freshness and variety of options, including fresh fruits, yoghurts, pastries and an array of teas. The breakfast room, while pleasant, has occasionally been noted as somewhat impersonal and there were suggestions for additional items such as omelettes and bacon to improve the value.
The rooms, despite being compact, are clean and cozy with well-maintained bedding and newly fitted bathrooms. Several rooms offer picturesque views of the square or courtyard, enhancing the stay. However, some guests noted issues with hot water supply and the absence of air conditioning in certain rooms. Accessibility may be a concern due to the lack of an elevator and presence of spiral staircases, yet the overall functionality and comfort make it suitable for both short and extended stays.
Cleanliness is a standout feature of the hotel with many guests describing the premises as spotless and well-maintained, contributing significantly to the overall pleasant experience. This is complemented by the friendly and attentive staff who consistently receive high praise for their professionalism and helpfulness.
The beds and bedding quality receive mostly positive reviews with many guests enjoying comfortable and clean sleeping arrangements. However, there were occasional mentions of mattresses being too soft or sloping and specific feedback indicated the need for a mattress replacement in room 210. The width of the beds and firmness of the pillows also drew some critique.
Overall, Best Western Hôtel De France offers a charming and comfortable stay with exceptional service, cleanliness and a prime location, though there is some room for improvement in bedding and breakfast variety.
