Review Summaries

Location

Novotel Setúbal enjoys a diverse range of opinions regarding its location. Situated at the entrance of Setúbal and close to major highways, this hotel is particularly appreciated for its accessibility by car and proximity to Alegro, a large shopping center offering a variety of dining and shopping options. Many travelers find its location to be functional and convenient, citing it as a primary reason for their choice, especially for short stays or as a base for exploring nearby attractions like the Troia Peninsula and the Costa de Caparica. The setting is described as quiet and pleasant with lush surroundings and easy parking, which adds to the overall appeal of the hotel. Despite being outside the historic city center and a bit distant from the beaches, it remains well-regarded for its connection to main roads and its logistical convenience. For those without a car, the hotel's location might feel somewhat far from the bustling city center and port areas, making a visit to the beach less straightforward. In summary, Novotel Setúbal offers a blend of accessibility and tranquility, making it a strategic spot for travelers with vehicular access and those looking to enjoy nearby commercial amenities.

Breakfast

The breakfast at Novotel Setubal garners high praise from guests, consistently highlighted as a standout feature of the hotel. Most reviews commend the breakfast for its excellent quality and wide variety of options. The buffet format is especially appreciated with many noting its completeness and the abundance of choices available, including gluten-free options and fresh fruit. Guests frequently describe the breakfast as fantastic, divine and superb with some even rating it among the best they've experienced in any hotel. The breakfast is lauded for not only its tasty offerings but also its healthy and diverse selections, ensuring something for every palate. The extended breakfast hours also receive favorable mentions, adding to the overall convenience for guests. While the space where breakfast is served can get crowded, the hall's layout supports a generally smooth and pleasant dining experience. Additional thoughtful touches, such as a pancake machine that thrills children, contribute to a satisfying morning meal. Overall, guests appreciate the combination of quality, variety and service, describing the breakfast as an excellent value that enhances their stay at Novotel Setubal.

Dinner

Novotel Setubal offers a range of dining options that many guests find satisfactory for an evening in. A strong point of the hotel's culinary offerings is the quality of the food with several guests recommending the restaurant for its excellent Portuguese dishes and room service. The bar scene in the evening is well-regarded for its good selection and quality, providing a pleasant meeting point. The breakfast and dinner experiences at Novotel Setubal are frequently highlighted as good with the dinner menu being particularly noteworthy despite its limited variety. Guests appreciate the fresh ingredients and recommend the chef's suggestions for a delightful meal. Although some diners felt the service could be slow and the staff appeared overwhelmed at times, the overall consensus is that the food served is very good. The restaurant's offer/price ratio is considered reasonable, despite some reviews mentioning that food prices are on the higher side. The restaurant's buffet surprised guests with the quality and quantity of options available. A decent play zone for children also makes it a family-friendly dining environment. However, there are areas for improvement. Limited variety in the snack menu during the day and breakfast options that aren't always replenished consistently were noted. Some guests also pointed out that not all food was to their taste. Despite these criticisms, many guests still found their dining experiences at Novotel Setubal to be pleasant and satisfying.

Rooms

Novotel Setubal's rooms elicit mixed impressions among guests with many positive remarks about the cleanliness and comfort. Several reviews highlight that the rooms are spacious, clean and boast modern conveniences like fridges and comfortable beds. Guests particularly appreciate the bright and airy atmosphere, as well as the recent renovations in some bathrooms, which have been positively noted for their modern design. Family amenities, including a sofa bed for children and children's amenities in the room, are deemed convenient for those traveling with kids. However, many rooms still exhibit signs of age and could benefit from an update. Common complaints include outdated furniture, small and malfunctioning TVs and poor air conditioning. Some guests mention issues such as cracked bathroom floors, clogged sinks and a general need for a makeover in both rooms and bathrooms. The limited space in rooms for four people and inadequate storage facilities have also been points of concern, making them less ideal for larger families. Guests mention some maintenance issues like musty and smoky odors, noisy environments and occasional lapses in cleanliness. Moreover, the older decor and dated technology, particularly the small, often non-functional TVs, detract from the overall experience. While the hotel's rooms provide a certain level of comfort and cleanliness that aligns with its pricing, the consensus indicates that a full renovation could significantly enhance the guest experience, bringing the rooms up to the standards expected of a modern 4-star hotel.

Beds

The reviews for the beds at Novotel Setubal present a mixed picture. Guests frequently praise the main beds, often describing them as very comfortable, clean and featuring good-quality mattresses. The queen-size and double beds receive particularly positive feedback for their comfort and modern attributes. However, the same cannot be said for the additional and sofa beds, especially those provided for children. There are recurring complaints about the sofa beds being extremely uncomfortable with many guests highlighting issues such as feeling the springs and the mattresses being too soft or worn out. This factor has significantly impacted the sleep quality for those using these beds, leading to a less favorable experience. Despite these drawbacks, the hotel does benefit from new and comfortable main beds in many rooms, contributing to a satisfactory stay for guests who are using these primary sleeping arrangements. Yet, the comfort and quality of supplementary beds remain areas needing attention.

Cleanliness

Novotel Setubal receives mixed feedback regarding its cleanliness. Guests frequently praise the hotel for being very clean and well-maintained. Clean rooms and common areas are often highlighted and many mention the overall good standard of cleanliness and the diligence of the housekeeping team. The hotel boasts a clean and welcoming atmosphere with guests appreciating the clean rooms, bathrooms and common spaces. The pool and leisure areas also receive compliments for their cleanliness. However, some reviews point out inconsistencies. There have been occasional complaints about specific cleanliness issues, such as dust, ants, small cockroaches and neglected areas like the exterior or some common spaces. Bathrooms and certain room elements are described as outdated and in need of deeper cleaning or renovation. Several guests noted irregular cleaning schedules and that room cleaning sometimes lacked thoroughness. Overall, while many guests found the cleanliness at Novotel Setubal satisfactory and even excellent, there are areas identified for improvement to ensure a consistently high standard of hygiene throughout the property.

Guests frequently praise the team for their outstanding service and attentiveness, noting their ability to make visitors feel welcome and well-cared for during their stay. Keywords such as "friendly," "helpful," "attentive," and "polite" appear repeatedly throughout reviews, reflecting a strong focus on hospitality and customer care. Specific mentions of staff going out of their way to assist, along with the availability and friendliness of the team members, underline a high standard of service that contributes significantly to the positive guest experience. Moreover, the professionalism and kindness of individual employees, such as João Fernandes and Teresa from the bar, leave a memorable impact on guests. Whether addressing personal requests or providing day-to-day services, the staff's commitment to making each stay pleasant and accommodating is evident. This dedication is further supported by the appreciation of their empathy, welcoming manners and efficient responses. The gym at Novotel Setubal has both positive and negative aspects based on guest reviews. Some guests appreciated the existence of the gym and found it to be great. However, others noted several drawbacks, including limited facilities with only three machines and dumbbells. The pool area is praised for its cleanliness and modernity, adding to the overall positive atmosphere. Families, in particular, found the pool advantageous with children especially relishing the dedicated space. The diversity and amenity of the pool area, including external areas like the terrace, added variety to their leisure time. The serene environment around the pool was another commendable feature that contributed to a relaxing experience. However, there were some points of concern. At peak times, the pool could feel crowded and its size was sometimes deemed inadequate for the hotel's capacity. Maintenance issues such as non-functional lights and the need for some repairs were also noted. Despite these drawbacks, the general consensus suggests that the pool at Novotel Setubal is a significant asset, offering a delightful escape for guests.

Families can also expect a variety of family-oriented events and activities. Guests have noted the hotel's overall family-friendly environment, which is further complemented by dedicated family rooms with modern decor. However, there have been occasional issues with children’s beds and some family rooms having a lingering smell of smoke. The hotel staff is praised for their warm hospitality and accommodating nature, contributing to a pleasant stay. The dining options are varied, ensuring that families can enjoy different meals every day. Additional perks include good parking, quiet and green spaces for play and an excellent pool area. Though the layout of some rooms could be improved and a few minor issues such as the availability of children's beds exist, Novotel Setubal remains a highly recommended spot for family vacations. The combination of clean, comfortable rooms and a welcoming atmosphere makes it an excellent choice for families looking to relax and enjoy quality time together.

4 Star

Novotel Setubal offers good value for money with many guests finding the quality to be commendable for a four-star hotel. The breakfast experience particularly stands out with some guests describing it as the best they have had in any four-star accommodation. Despite its strengths, several reviewers expressed disappointment regarding the room quality, noting that it does not meet the expected standards of a four-star hotel. The outdated décor and functionality of the rooms were frequently cited as areas that need improvement. The hotel staff received praise for being very accommodating and helpful, contributing positively to the overall stay. However, the restaurant menu did not meet the expectations associated with a four-star establishment. While the hotel aligns with Accor standards, some visitors felt that Novotel Setubal is on the verge of maintaining its four-star credibility and that there were discrepancies in its rating representation.
