Location

Nestled in a quiet area, Hotel Castel boasts an ideal location that is highly appreciated by its guests. The hotel is conveniently positioned just a short walk away from the city center, making it an excellent base for exploring the historic old town, shopping, dining and sightseeing. Its proximity to the train station and festival grounds enhances its appeal, particularly for those attending local events. Additionally, the hotel is easy to find with car access and ample parking facilities, making it a top choice for travelers with their own vehicles. Guests frequently mention the stunning views of the castle illuminated in the evening, adding a touch of charm to their stay. The hotel also offers a serene setting despite being near the bustling center, providing a perfect balance of convenience and tranquility. Ideal for both leisure and business travelers, Hotel Castel combines prime location with good value for money.

Breakfast

Hotel Castel's breakfast has received mixed reviews, leaning towards a less favorable impression. While some guests found the morning offerings to be tasty, hearty and decent with good coffee, others felt the options were sparse and the quality inadequate for a 3-star hotel. The selection was often described as minimal and there were complaints about the lack of variety, especially for vegetarians. Several noted that the buffet rarely saw replenishments, leading to empty trays, which was disappointing given the additional charge for breakfast. The breakfast items available were basic with some guests pointing out the inclusion of simple bread, jam, yogurt and canned fruit salad. The price of CHF 10-11 per person was considered steep by some visitors given the limited selection. Despite these criticisms, a few found the breakfast to be satisfactory and mentioned it had the potential for improvement. In sum, while there are positive aspects to the breakfast at Hotel Castel, many guests believe there's room for enhancement in terms of variety and value for money.

Rooms

Hotel Castel offers a mixed bag of experiences when it comes to its room accommodations, but there are certainly highlights worth noting. Many guests praised the spaciousness of the rooms with some specifically mentioning the exceptional views of nearby castles and mountains. Cleanliness is often highlighted with numerous reviews mentioning that the rooms were very clean, functional and comfortable. The balconies attached to some rooms are noted for providing a pleasant additional space, even if the view is occasionally marred by an adjoining building. Guests found the beds to be generally comfortable, making the rooms suitable for both short stays and city explorations. However, a few reviews pointed out that the rooms could benefit from some renovations and modernization efforts could enhance the overall experience. A lack of air conditioning and inadequate ventilation were issues, especially during hotter periods. While some appreciated the basic furnishings and older style of the rooms, others found the amenities lacking, noting the absence of items like kettles and hairdryers, which would have added convenience. The hotel's restaurant being closed on Saturday evenings was another downside mentioned. In summary, Hotel Castel offers clean, spacious rooms with beautiful views and comfortable beds. However, potential guests should be aware of its outdated aspects and limited amenities.

Beds

Hotel Castel offers a mixed experience when it comes to the quality of its beds. Many guests have found the beds to be comfortable with descriptions ranging from comfy to soft and warm. Cleanliness is also noted as a positive aspect. However, some guests have reported issues such as sagging mattresses and overly soft beds leading to discomfort, particularly sore backs after prolonged stays. Pillow comfort appears to be another area needing improvement. Despite these issues, the generally positive feedback on the beds suggests that while some improvements could be made, many guests still find a good night's sleep at Hotel Castel.

Visitors often mention the kind and attentive staff, who ensure that everything runs smoothly and efficiently, including easy late check-ins. For those traveling with pets, one downside noted is the occasional presence of dog waste around the hotel grounds, which can be unpleasant. The combination of cleanliness, spaciousness and friendly service provides good value for money, making Hotel Castel a reliable option for those staying in Sion. Despite a few minor drawbacks, guests express an intention to return, praising the hotel's comfort and well-maintained facilities.

Parking

Many visitors appreciated the inexpensive and often free parking available right in front of the hotel, which added to the overall ease of their stay. The hotel boasts its own car park with ample parking spaces, ensuring that guests usually found a spot without any issue. Additionally, the hotel's location offers great views of the nearby castle, enhancing the overall parking experience.
