The castle was built around the 12th century and was initially used as a fortress, before housing the bishops of Siguenza. It is said that a descendant of Christopher Columbus later turned the castle into a palace, where nobility resided. After many centuries of turbulent events, the castle was abandoned until 1971 when it was turned into a historic hotel.
