Guests are consistently impressed by the picturesque and peaceful setting, which, combined with friendly and welcoming service, contributes to a retreat-like experience infused with the city's rich heritage. The breakfast experience at Les Mérinides is generally positive, characterized by good, varied and generous offerings, including fresh omelettes and Moroccan pancakes made on-site. Attentive and friendly breakfast staff further enhance this aspect of the stay. Nevertheless, there is room for improvement in terms of variety, freshness and value, as some guests feel the breakfast does not live up to a 5-star standard. Dining at the hotel's restaurant is widely appreciated with many praising the delicious and varied dinners. Generous portions, quality ingredients and outstanding service, especially during dinner, create a memorable culinary experience. While a few guests remark on the high cost of the buffet and minor issues with specific dishes, the overall feedback highlights the restaurant as a standout feature, especially with its extraordinary views of the medina. Rooms at Les Mérinides are spacious and comfortable, often featuring remarkable city views. The cleanliness and comfort are frequently lauded, although some guests note the need for refurbishment due to outdated furnishings, occasional damp smells and insufficient soundproofing. Despite these points, the combination of affordability, excellent views and decent amenities enhances the overall guest experience. Cleanliness in general receives mixed reviews. While some areas and the service staff are praised for their upkeep and attentiveness, other parts of the hotel, particularly the rooms and some common areas, show signs of wear and require better maintenance to meet guests' expectations. The hotel's staff stands out for their exceptional service and friendliness. Guests frequently commend the helpful and warm demeanor of the team, noting their professionalism and the familial atmosphere they create. This positive interaction is a significant factor contributing to guests' satisfaction. The swimming pool area is another positive element, appreciated for its beauty, size and the stunning views it offers. While some guests mention occasional lapses in cleanliness, the pool remains a well-liked feature, providing a relaxing escape with a picturesque backdrop. Comfortable beds and quality bedding are frequently noted, enhancing the living experience at Les Mérinides despite occasional issues with older mattresses and room humidity. Finally, while some guests feel that Les Mérinides falls short of five-star expectations due to service quality and dated facilities, the exceptional location, breathtaking views and warm hospitality offer a compelling stay. With significant improvements, Les Mérinides could fully realize its potential as a top-tier establishment.

Perched in the heights above the old medina, guests are treated to breathtaking vistas that encapsulate the historic beauty of Fes, providing a stunning backdrop that enhances the overall experience. The hotel's position is both peaceful and aesthetically pleasing, offering a quiet retreat away from the bustling medina below. Moreover, the hotel's architecture and terrace layout complement its enviable geographic situation, allowing visitors to immerse themselves fully in the scenery. Positive mentions of staff friendliness also add to the charm, creating a welcoming atmosphere that many guests appreciate. The picturesque setting, combined with the excellent location and friendly service, makes Les Mérinides a prime choice for travelers seeking both comfort and an authentic connection to the city's rich heritage.

Breakfast

Les Mérinides offers a breakfast that receives mixed reviews from its guests. On the positive side, many patrons describe the breakfast as good, varied, hearty and generous. Guests appreciate the attentive service and highlight the fresh omelettes and Moroccan pancakes made on-site, which add a delightful touch to the morning meal. It's noted that some find the breakfast to be exceptional, lovely, delicious and superb with one mentioning it as fantastic. The breakfast staff is often described as attentive and friendly, enhancing the overall experience. However, there are several areas of concern for a number of guests. Some find the breakfast standard or not living up to the city's culinary expectations, mentioning that it could benefit from fresher fruits and pastries. A few reviewers noted that the breakfast could be more varied and that the buffet was not always well-stocked. Additionally, certain guests felt that the breakfast did not meet the standards of a 5-star establishment and were disappointed by the lack of options. Another point of dissatisfaction is the pricing with some guests expressing frustration over being charged more than expected for breakfast, feeling that the cost did not match the quality provided. There were also comments about the breakfast being just okay or even poor, suggesting room for improvement. Overall, while the breakfast at Les Mérinides has its highlights, there are clear areas where it could be improved to better meet the expectations of all guests.

Dinner

Les Mérinides offers an excellent dining experience with guests frequently praising the quality and taste of the food at the hotel restaurant. Dinners are described as delicious, varied and exceeding expectations with generous portions that leave diners satisfied. Special mentions highlight the excellence of the tagine and commend the freshness and variety of the meals. The restaurant staff, both at breakfast and dinner, receive positive feedback for their pleasant demeanor and helpfulness, including their insightful off-menu recommendations. However, a few areas for improvement are noted. Some guests find the dinner buffet a bit expensive and express a desire for more traditional Moroccan menu options. A specific critique mentions that the carbonara pasta was overly greasy and heavy. Despite these minor points, the overall sentiment remains favorable with many enjoying their meals both in the dining room and in their rooms, appreciating the food's quality, affordability and the splendid restaurant setting with extraordinary views of the medina. Overall, dining at Les Mérinides is regarded as a highlight of the stay, marked by good quality, satisfying food and excellent service.

Rooms

Les Mérinides offers spacious and comfortable rooms, many of which provide stunning views over the city. Guests frequently highlight the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms with some rooms featuring upscale amenities such as air conditioning and a bidet in the bathroom. However, the room furnishings are noted to be quite outdated with some reviewers mentioning a damp smell and stains on the floor. The rooms, while generally spacious, could benefit from refurbishment. Certain areas such as the bathrooms and the lack of soundproofing in some rooms are specifically pointed out as needing improvement. Issues such as old furniture, inadequate room size and the occasional lack of essential items like towels, bathrobes and slippers were also mentioned. Despite the need for updates, the excellent views and overall spaciousness of the rooms contribute positively to the guest experience. The hotel itself with its beautiful swimming pool, large private parking and attentive staff, adds to the appealing aspects of staying at Les Mérinides. While some aspects of the rooms reflect their age, the combination of decent pricing and exceptional views makes the stay worthwhile for many guests.

Beds

Les Mérinides is well-regarded for its beds with many guests highlighting their comfort and quality. The bedding is often described as top-notch with specific mentions of superb and very comfortable beds. Visitors appreciate the spaciousness and cleanliness of the rooms with the king-size beds receiving particular praise for their size and comfort. Soft, fluffy towels add to the overall positive experience. However, not all feedback is positive. A few guests reported older mattresses and issues such as black damp stains, which detracted from their stay. Some also noted the lack of air-conditioning as a potential concern during warmer months. Despite these points, the majority of reviews reflect satisfaction with the comfortable and spacious bedding at Les Mérinides.

Cleanliness

Les Mérinides has garnered mixed opinions regarding its cleanliness. On a positive note, many guests have praised the hotel for being very clean, highlighting that the common areas are well-maintained and emit a pleasant smell. The service quality has also been commended with staff often described as attentive and helpful. However, other aspects of cleanliness and maintenance have fallen short of expectations. Several reviews indicate that the hotel's carpets are stained and emit unpleasant odors. Bathrooms and rooms have received criticism for being outdated and not thoroughly cleaned with some reports of dirty bedding and remnants from previous occupants. The pool area also suffers from cleanliness issues, particularly the ladders, which have been described as dirty and slippery. The hotel's structure, while generally maintained, is noted to be older and in need of significant updates, particularly in the rooms, reception and restaurant. Issues such as noise, broken windows and aged furniture further detract from the overall experience. While Les Mérinides benefits from an enviable location and excellent service, a major rejuvenation effort would greatly enhance its appeal.

Staff

Les Mérinides, a hotel perched in an exceptional location with a breathtaking 360° view of the medina of Fes, has garnered a strong reputation for outstanding service and a remarkably friendly staff. Reviews overwhelmingly highlight the kindness and attentiveness of the staff, describing them as helpful, super friendly and exceptionally welcoming. The reception team, especially noted for their professionalism and warm hospitality, provides a delightful first impression, often greeting guests with a warm drink in the room. Guests repeatedly praise the dedication and responsiveness of the entire team with special mentions of the restaurant staff who offer top-notch service marked by exceptional kindness. Everyone from the breakfast crew to the evening dinner staff is described as smiling, pleasant and attentive, which significantly enhances the overall dining experience. Many reviews commend the professionalism and helpful nature of the staff, particularly highlighting individuals like Mr. Oussama at the reception, who stands out for his professionalism and amiable demeanor. The manager's warm welcome and the familial atmosphere created by the staff contribute to an incredibly pleasant stay for guests. Although most feedback is positive, some reviews do mention inconsistencies with a few staff members displaying a less attentive attitude. However, these instances seem to be outliers in an otherwise glowing collection of guest experiences. In summary, the staff at Les Mérinides play a pivotal role in ensuring a memorable and enjoyable stay, combining professionalism with a warm, welcoming demeanor that leaves guests feeling like part of a family.

Pool

Les Mérinides boasts a commendable swimming pool area, frequently described as beautiful, large and well-maintained. The pool's 25-meter length offers ample space for serious swimmers and casual bathers alike. Many guests appreciated the fantastic views of the medina from the pool, making for a picturesque swimming experience. The pool area is often highlighted as a pleasant and relaxing setting, further enhanced by the friendly and welcoming staff. However, some reviews indicated issues with the pool's cleanliness, noting instances where it appeared murky or in need of a deep cleaning. Despite these concerns, the general sentiment remains positive with praise for its refreshing quality even in the heat and the overall pleasant ambiance of the pool area. The pool at Les Mérinides stands out for its size, scenic views and generally well-kept condition, although it could benefit from more consistent maintenance to address occasional lapses in hygiene and upkeep.

5 Star

Les Mérinides has received mixed reviews regarding its five-star rating and facilities. While some guests appreciate the hotel's excellent location, offering a breathtaking view of the medina and the whole of Fes, many others feel it falls short of the five-star standard. Common points of dissatisfaction include the quality of the service and the state of the bathrooms with some guests expressing disappointment in the reception staff's lack of cooperation. The hotel is described by some as resembling a three-star establishment rather than a five-star one. Specific mentions were made of the breakfast quality not meeting expectations and an overall need for a refresh to restore its former glory. Despite these areas for improvement, other guests have highlighted the friendly and helpful nature of the staff, emphasizing the potential of this hotel. Overall, while there is a lot of praise for the magnificent views and some aspects of staff service, there's a clear consensus that significant improvements are necessary for Les Mérinides to meet the high standards of a five-star hotel.
