Location
Mottram Hall is an idyllic countryside retreat with a prime location that's perfect for those looking to explore the surrounding area. Its sprawling acres of Cheshire countryside make it a great chill-out location that's perfect for rest and relaxation. As you drive up the grand driveway, the hotel looks really something and the grounds are stunning. The location is superb with easy access to Manchester and the airport. It's also great if you're visiting the Peak District. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and the building is absolutely breathtaking. If you're a golfer, the location is fantastic as it also has a golf course. The hotel is perfect for a wedding reception and has lovely rooms with gorgeous gardens perfect for any event. However, some rooms are dated and small and there's also the issue of having to climb stairs in some areas. Nonetheless, the location and setting are fab and the surrounding area is lovely with lots of nice places within driving distance. The hotel's location is great for exploring the area with many confirmed guest reviews stating this fact multiple times.
Breakfast
The breakfast experience at Mottram Hall is a mixed bag according to guest reviews. While some rave about the delicious and plentiful options, others have had less enjoyable experiences. Some guests had difficulty getting in contact with the hotel staff, leading to difficulties in accessing breakfast. Staff attentiveness can also be an issue with some guests feeling overlooked. The hot and cold buffet offers a lot of choice, but some dishes can be hit or miss, particularly the full English which is on the buffet rather than made to order. However, the quality and variety of food and drinks is generally praised when available. Some guests have complained about the chaos and overwhelming atmosphere during busy times. There are also complaints about the additional cost of breakfast and limited gluten-free options. Overall, while some guests had great breakfast experiences, others found it to be a disappointing part of their stay at Mottram Hall.
Dinner
The dinner experience at Mottram Hall received mixed reviews from guests. While some guests raved about the delicious food and attentive staff, others were disappointed by poor service and overpriced, unsatisfactory meals. Some guests mentioned difficulty with the restaurant reservation system and a lack of staff in the restaurant, resulting in long wait times and chaotic service. Despite the limited menu, some guests enjoyed the tasty dishes served, while others found the food to be poor in quality and not worth the high cost. Some guests resorted to eating basic, unappetizing meals in the golf course pub due to long wait times in the restaurant. Overall, the dining room experiences were inconsistent with some guests enjoying the food and service, while others likened the experience to a "Manuel/Fawlty Towers" dinner.
Rooms
The rooms at Mottram Hall are a mixed bag according to guest reviews. Many found the rooms to be outdated and in need of renovation. Some even went as far as to say the hotel was not worthy of its 4-star rating. Some rooms were described as small with some guests disappointed after paying for a superior room. Others found the rooms to be clean, well presented and had comfortable beds. However, there were reports of dated and poorly maintained furnishings and facilities and some even found blood stains on the pillows and sheets. Some rooms were hot and stuffy, while others were cold with no heating. The lack of air conditioning and fans during hot summer months was a common complaint. Some rooms even had a bad smell. However, some guests praised the size of their rooms with some even describing them as luxurious. Although, some rooms had poor views with one guest saying their view was a brick wall. Overall, the rooms were a mixed bag with some needing a refurb and others exceeding expectations.
Beds
Guests of Mottram Hall can look forward to a luxurious and comfortable stay with spacious, clean and beautiful rooms. Most reviews praised the beds and how comfortable they were, making it a great chill out location for a good night's sleep. However, some guests found the beds to be lacking with complaints of improperly made beds, uncomfortable beds and some even encountering mould stains on the bed sheets. Some rooms also had smaller beds than expected and there were instances where standard rooms did not have coffee provided. Despite these isolated incidents, most guests were pleased with the accommodations offered at Mottram Hall.
Cleanliness
Mixed reviews about the cleanliness of Mottram Hall were left by guests. While some found the property to be so clean, others had the opposite experience. Some guests had reported encountering dirty plates along the corridor, hairs in the bathroom and blood stains on the pillows. Some also found mould around the seal of the bathtub, broken tiles in the bathroom and spiders’ webs in common areas. Some guests did appreciate the staff, cleanliness and spa; however, others found the spa unclean and many facilities not working. Some also noted that the carpet looked like it needed cleaning and the restaurant was abysmal. Despite the varying reviews, some guests still found the room to be clean, comfortable, spacious and luxurious.
Staff
According to guest reviews, the staff at Mottram Hall hotel is a mixed bag. Some guests raved about the polite, professional, friendly and welcoming staff who even left them a bottle of champagne in their room. Others, unfortunately, had poor experiences with unhelpful, rude and inattentive staff who made simple requests feel like an imposition. Breakfast was an hour late and one bride waited over 40 minutes for a coffee. However, there were some stars among the team, like Sarah who was a lifesaver. The staff at the spa itself and the restaurant staff who were welcoming were also singled out for praise. The biggest issue seemed to be understaffing, resulting in slow service and confusion in fulfilling orders. Some guests felt that there needs to be serious training provided to staff to improve the quality of customer service. However, a handful of staff members like the amazing concierge, fantastic restaurant manager and Georgja, Katie, Radek and Kamil were exceptional. Ultimately, the review is a mixed bag with some guests enjoying their stay despite the poor service, while others vowed not to return.
Spa
Mottram Hall offers a beautiful spa facility that many guests enjoyed using during their stay. However, some guests found that constant paying for add ons such as charge for the spa and small towel and no robe detracted from their experience. The spa was over crowded at times, leaving guests unable to find loungers or beds and some reported that the spa was unclean and poorly maintained. Others thought that the spa was great and enjoyed using the spa facilities, indoor pool and gorgeous gardens. Although some guests found the spa overpriced with expensive spa treatments, others found the evening spa well priced and had great facilities. Overall, while some guests had negative experiences with the spa and felt that it was not worth the extra charge, others thought that it was a brilliant facility and everything they had wished for.
Family
Mottram Hall has received mixed feedback from families. Some guests were disappointed with the lack of room service when requesting hot milk for their baby. Others faced a challenge when carrying their luggage and young children from the car park to the reception. Some families were also frustrated with their rooms not being ready for check-in time and having to wait until later in the day to access their rooms. Some guests were also disappointed that their rooms were not as expected or that their family was not accommodated close together. On the other hand, families enjoyed the scenic lake at the back of the hotel. However, guests did mention that non-wedding guests should be warned in advance of potential noise disturbances late at night. It's important that if you're traveling with young children or have specific needs for your accommodation, you communicate these directly with Mottram Hall ahead of time to avoid any unwanted surprises.
Golf
Mottram Hall is a great location for a golf break with a superb golf course on its doorstep. Guests who played on the course enjoyed it and described it as fabulous and quite good. The building and gardens of the golf course are stunning and add to the picturesque scenery. However, some guests felt that the golf and hotel should work better together and ordered an evening meal only to be directed to the golfers bar. The clubhouse meal was described as fine and basic, but bland and expensive. The hotel itself was not described as impressive by all, but was fine for a weekend if you want to golf. Guests who had a room with a golf view enjoyed the experience. Outside the hotel room window, an alley was used to park a golf cart. Nevertheless, the drive alongside the golf course to the hotel was described as a real pleasure. Overall, if golf is your passion, then Mottram Hall is a great choice.
4 Star
Mottram Hall is a beautifully grand hotel, however, it is not what you would expect from a 4-star hotel. Some were disappointed with their room and expected more for the cost. The hotel is in need of renovation and some guests experienced issues such as being overcharged and not receiving a credit card receipt. While the Spa was pleasant, the service could use some finesse. Despite these issues, others found the venue beautiful and plan to stay again. However, a few guests declared that the hotel does not merit its marketing stars and are discouraged from recommending it, especially for a wedding.
Luxury
Mottram Hall is a beautiful countryside hotel that boasts 5-star facilities that promise pure luxury. The rooms are spacious and luxurious with Elemis toiletries in the bathroom and the property is absolutely stunning. However, some guests felt that the hotel didn't quite live up to its price tag and couldn't offer the level of luxury they expected. Despite this, most guests had a lovely stay and declared it the most beautiful hotel they've ever stayed at, making it a perfect destination for a luxurious getaway or a treat before flying out from the airport.
