Has restoration work taken place?
Renovations were done after a fire in 1992 destroyed modern parts of the building leaving the historic part only smoke damaged. The building was rebuilt keeping the integrity of the old style.
Are there any elements of particular historical importance at the building?
The fireplace in the great room was built by Tony Lujan. The tilework in three bathrooms feature RC Gorman tiles. Sandblasted and colored glass window designs by Bren Price. Doors by Mark Romero.
Are there any important guests or previous owners worth mentioning?
Miriam Hapgood Dewitt modernized the building in 1929. Her mother was Neith Boyce and her father was Hutchins Hapgood. Privacy issue restrictions apply.
Are there any significant events that took place at the property in the past?
Winter in Taos by Mabel Dodge describes the property on page 70. Touchstone Foundation, Inc 501c3 holds workshops at the property. Many famous people have come and gone from the property. Present ownership began in 1983.

No historical status has been sought because of restrictions placed on these properties.

The ambiance of Touchstone remains while functionality has been updated. All rental rooms are accessed by outside entrances of the main historical home which is open by appointment at this time.
