What is the history of the property?
Two lions at the entrance gate and the Bavarian royal coat of arms in the entrance hall of the Hotel Bavaria commemorate the Wittelsbach Carl Theodor, Duke in Bavaria and favourite brother of Empress Elisabeth-Sissi. The Villa Bavaria was built in 1883 and in 1885 the ducal entourage moved to the newly built Villa Bavaria in Merano, while Dr. Carl Theodor took up his work as an ophthalmologist in the nearby medical centre, now the Hotel Palma. His stays as well as the visits of Empress Sissi contributed greatly to the fame of the health resort and helped the town on the river Passer to international fame. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Bavarian reminiscence was then converted into a hotel. Several extensions followed over the decades. Almost everything has been renovated and modernised in the meantime. Today, the hotel is owned by the Berger family of doctors and enchants guests with its unmistakable flair and warm hospitality.
