Principal Edinburgh George Street consists of five townhouses which were built in 1775 in order to become the residences of some of Edinburgh's most distinguished personalities. Since 1881, the townhouses were turned into a hotel, which, after changing owners and brands, became the luxurious historic hotel that it is today. Its deep history is evident throughout the building as well as through small details, while the hotel also tries to blend the traditional Scottish culture and heritage with modern amenities and state-of-the-art facilities that have earned it the title of one of the most lavish hotels in Edinburgh.
Guests are welcome to bring their dogs along for a fee of £30 per dog per night. Dogs are permitted only in specific rooms and each room can accommodate up to 2 dogs maximum.
The Glasshouse hotel is housed in a building that used to be a free church for the less wealthy people of Edinburgh, built in 1846, after the original building was demolished in 1844 in order for the Waverley Station to be built. Retaining the old chapel and the Gothic facade, reworkings of the building in order to be turned into the hotel started in 2000, thus retransforming it into a renewed historical landmark for the city.
