Historic ResortEdwin Wiley Grove, a then-famous investor and now dubbed as the "Father of Modern Asheville", bought 408 acres of land in Asheville to build residential neighbourhoods. After two years, Grove started planning the hotel with Seely. Hand built by 400 men hauling granite boulders from the Sunset Mountain, the hotel opened for business less than a year later. Jennings Bryan, the Secretary of State, delivered an address for the grand-opening. The hotel is a proud member of the "Historic Hotels of America".
