Bali is a province of Indonesia and includes the island of Bali and a few smaller neighboring islands. Rated as one of the best travel destinations in the world, it is renowned for its highly developed arts and is part of the area with the highest biodiversity of marine species, especially fish and turtles.
Prominent tourist locations are the town of Kuta (with its beach), the east coast town of Sanur (once the only tourist hub), Ubud towards the center of the island, Jimbaran and the newer developments of Nusa Dua and Pecatu.
Because of its attractive surroundings (both mountain and coastal areas), diverse tourist attractions, excellent international and local restaurants and the friendliness of the local people, visitors of all ages, background, budget or interest will find something to explore and discover.
Accommodation in Bali comes in great variety, from basic guest houses (Losmen) run by friendly Balinese families, to luxurious beach resorts and privately-serviced beachfront villas.
An interesting fact is that technically, there are no over-water bungalows or villas in Bali that are built on the sea. According to Indonesian law, all sea surrounding the country belongs to the government, so no hotel or resort can be built over the public water. To bypass this restriction, many hotels and resorts offer water villas with private lagoons and pools where the water is right outside the front door or window, offering direct access to guests who want to slip in or just dip their feet.
