Firstly used as a private mansion and as an annexe of the public hospital, it has been turned into a hotel from the XVIIIth century. The hotel has welcomed many historic celebrities, such as Louis XVI, Mademoiselle George (who was a famous tragedian born in Bayeux and also known for being one of the mistresses of Napoleon Bonaparte); Gustave Flaubert who wrote his last novel "Bouvard and Pecuchet" in this venue; and many others. It was also the heardquaters of SS officers during the World War II.
