All the eco labels in Spain require an annual subscription of 1000 euros and do not actually ask hotels to be ecological, so it is just greenwashing. We have been as eco as possible since we opened 15 years ago. Our AC only runs during the day when there is enough power produced by the sun. We use as little as possible and run the whole hotel on less than 4kw, everything is as low energy usage as possible. We are completely off grid for everything, power, sewage, water. We use wooden shutters and shading (including deciduous trees) to reduce the sun heating the buildings in the Summer and then open the shutters remove shading in the Winter so the sun warms the building in the Winter. We have windows that allow the sun to shine in and heat the buildings but do not allow heat/cold to pass through normally. Vegan and vegetarian km zero menu as standard. Bikes can be rented onsite. We include walking and biking routes with every stay. Recycling bins are available in the different parts of the hotel and we sort the room waste. We use ventilation to control the building temperatures, using warm winter afternoon air and cool Summer night time air to ventilate the buildings. Every area of the running of the hotel is altered to be as ecologic and sustainable as possible and is always being adapted as required. Suggestions on how to be more environmentally friendly as always welcome.

Hotel Taking Steps Towards Sustainability
Embodying environmental responsibility, Landhotel Grimmeblick is a green sanctuary backed by two notable certifications - TourCert and Blaue Umwelt Engel. This commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of the hotel’s operations, right from its structural features to the daily practices it adopts. The hotel stands firm on its written environmental policy, using triple-glazed windows for efficient insulation and LED lighting throughout the premises to minimise energy consumption. Solar power is harnessed to meet the property’s energy needs, and an automatic system powers down lights and electrical appliances when guests are not in the room, further conserving energy. With a responsible approach to water usage, rainwater is collected for various purposes and toilets flush with up to 6 litres per flush, reducing water waste.

In its pursuit to achieve a smaller carbon footprint, Landhotel Grimmeblick measures its CO2 emissions with a recognised tool, and the residual CO2 load is neutralized through reforestation projects. An environmental manager ensures all policies are adhered to, and employees are well-trained to follow these sustainable measures. The commitment to waste management is laudable, with waste being separated into at least three categories, organic waste composted, and the avoidance of disposable single-use items. The hotel offers an electric car charging station, promoting the use of green transportation. In addition, the dining experience is thoughtfully curated with vegetarian alternatives on the menu, resonating with the eco-conscious spirit of the hotel. Regular energy audits ensure the continued efficiency of these environmentally-friendly practices.

Farm Stay Taking Steps Towards Sustainability
Embodying the principles of eco-tourism, Agroturismo Fincahotel Son Pou boasts a variety of sustainable practices, each contributing to a lessened environmental footprint. Solar radiation powers the establishment, supplemented by energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the premises. Construction materials sourced from sustainable resources, along with heat-blocking windows, contribute to the physical efficiency of the hotel. Eco-friendly initiatives extend beyond the property, including engagement in reforestation and wildlife conservation efforts. A written environmental policy is adhered to strictly, with an appointed environmental manager overseeing operations and ensuring staff compliance.

Water conservation is a key aspect of Son Pou's sustainability strategy. Rainwater collection systems are in place, while wastewater undergoes treatment for reuse. A novel highlight is the toilet system that uses just 6 litres per flush. In addition to water and energy conservation, waste reduction and recycling measures are paramount. These include recycling bins in guest rooms, composting of organic waste, and signs reminding guests that towels will only be replaced upon request. Food served in the restaurant is predominantly organic and locally sourced, with vegetarian alternatives available. As part of their environmental commitment, they also undergo an energy audit every five years. The conscious choice of using non-toxic cleaning products, reducing laundry frequency, and using eco-friendly detergent further contributes to their eco-friendly pledge. Guests can even partake in sustainable mobility, with bicycles available for their use.

Hotel Taking Steps Towards Sustainability
Adorned with prestigious certifications such as ECOLAB and DIN SPEC 10534, Mediterran Hotel Juwel paves the way towards sustainable hospitality. This green haven utilises building materials derived from sustainable resources and optimises the structure to enhance airflow and natural light, reducing reliance on air-conditioning, heating, and artificial lighting. Triple-glazed windows form an integral part of the structure, efficiently blocking heat or cold to maintain ideal room temperatures. The hotel further embodies eco-friendliness by participating in environmental initiatives such as reforestation and wildlife conservation.

In line with its commitment to eco-friendliness, Mediterran Hotel Juwel implements several practices geared towards resource conservation and waste reduction. LED lighting illuminates the premises, ensuring energy efficiency. Rainwater collection systems and water-saving toilets that flush up to 6 litres underline the hotel's careful approach towards water conservation. The waste management protocol is equally commendable, with waste being categorised into at least three types and organic waste composted. Furthermore, guests find recycling bins in their rooms and are informed about towel-change policies to help minimise water and energy usage. The hotel’s dining scene echoes its sustainability mantra with the provision of organic and locally sourced meals, alongside a thoughtful vegetarian menu. Contributing to local biodiversity, the hotel's 5000m² garden, Garten Eden, is a verdant sanctuary housing an array of trees, shrubs, and flowering plants, playing a significant role in preserving native insects and small animals.
