Perth City Backpackers Hostel offers a mixed experience for travelers with notable strengths and areas needing improvement. A prime highlight is its exceptional location near the city center and Perth CBD, providing easy access to shops, key attractions and the airport. This central position makes it a practical choice for visitors wanting to explore Perth efficiently. Guests also appreciate the straightforward check-in and check-out processes and the clean and well-maintained bathrooms.
The hostel provides a complimentary breakfast, though it is quite basic, consisting mainly of cereals, milk and instant coffee. While this offering ensures morning sustenance, it often leaves guests desiring more variety and substance.
Rooms at the hostel feature adequately air-conditioned spaces and relatively clean communal bathrooms. Guests in the 20-bed room were pleasantly surprised by its cleanliness and fresh smell, which is notable for a dorm of that size. However, some rooms are cramped with limited luggage space and ventilation problems, especially those without windows. Cleanliness in rooms is inconsistent with some guests encountering dirt, dust, mold, insects and missing bed linen. Noise from old, squeaky bunk beds further detracts from the comfort, despite some guests finding the beds reasonably comfortable.
Cleanliness remains a significant issue with common areas such as the lounge and kitchen often described as untidy. While the bathrooms are generally clean and well-maintained, other parts of the hostel, including exterior areas, suffer from lapses in cleanliness and upkeep.
Staff interactions are generally positive with many guests praising the friendliness and helpfulness of receptionists and other staff members. There are occasional reports of less satisfactory experiences, but the overall atmosphere created by the staff is welcoming and supportive.
The hostel offers free WiFi, which receives mixed reviews. Some guests find the connection amazing and functional, particularly in communal areas, while others experience slow and unreliable service.
In summary, Perth City Backpackers Hostel is a budget-friendly accommodation option with a fantastic central location and friendly staff. However, potential visitors should be prepared for some drawbacks in terms of cleanliness, room comfort and WiFi reliability.
