The Manor House was built by an English Lord in the late 19th century and restored in 1950 by a well known French architect, Maurice Gridaine, who made it into his secondary house for 50 years.

What was the era and/or the architectural style in which the property was built?
The Manor is a traditional Provencal Mas built in stone with terracotta roof tiles.

Is the property surrounded by other historic buildings?
The Manor is situated in a 12 acre private park overlooking a lotus covered lake, the largest collection in Europe. The medieval village of Mougins is only a couple of kilometres away.

Has restoration work taken place?
Yes, in the 1950's and then again early 2000.

There is a blue painted ceiling in the reception.

As mentioned Maurice Gridaine was the owner for 40 years. He built the original Palais de Festival in Cannes. Over the years many film stars have passed through.

Several French movies were filmed at le Manoir in the 1970's, including "Sans Mobile Apparent" with Jean Louis Trintignant.

In the heart of the Biarritz’ Parc d’Hiver, come and discover the ultimate most exclusive hotel of the Basque Country. Less than 5 minutes away from La Grande Plage of Biarritz, this 1885 manor with his protected architecture has been refurbished and transformed in a revisited baroque spirit. The hotel is one the best of the moment, stones and marbles from Rome, Versailles parquet flooring, French and Italian publisher’s precious fabrics, art works selected in the XXth style mixed with the latest technologies. In the park, a 25 meters deep blue swimming corridor heated at 28°c surrounded by palm and olive trees. As you cross the gate of the secure property, only 4 rooms, 2 suites and 2 appartments can accomodate a few privileged persons looking for quietness. A living room with a large fireplace opens on a bar with mirors and paneling. Dom Pérignon Bar, a unique bar in the South Ouest region offers 50 champagnes brandname as well as Dom Pérignon and Krug by the glass! In the morning under the ancient arches a somptuous marble table of 9.5 meters is awaiting guests for breakfast service until 12 am, and the Basque Bistro Menu until midnight. What is the history of the property?
Was built by Messire de Brunville during Century XVIIth. He named it in honor of his mother, the Luxembourg Duchess (Belgian province). Firstly used as a private mansion and as an annexe of the public hospital, it has been turned into a hotel from the XVIIIth century. The hotel has welcomed many historic celebrities, such as Louis XVI, Mademoiselle George (who was a famous tragedian born in Bayeux and also known for being one of the mistresses of Napoleon Bonaparte); Gustave Flaubert who wrote his last novel "Bouvard and Pecuchet" in this venue; and many others. It was also the heardquaters of SS officers during the World War II.
